General Tournament Information
Tournaments are entered 6 weeks in advance of the tournament date, based on the availability of dogs handlers (4-5 dogs needed to make up a team). Some tournaments are over-subscribed and our entry may not be accepted. Once we have notified that our entry has been successful, all competitors will be emailed & it will be posed to our website and Facebook.
We do not know at this stage whether we will be competing on the Saturday or the Sunday, so you need to be available to run on either day. We are usually notified around 1 week before the tournament which day we are running and Lorraine will email all competitors confirming the day.
A few days before the competition, details are sent out with the address, times you need to arrive and who is taking what equipment etc.
We do our absolute best to ensure that all dogs that are available get to race on the day. The decision on which dogs run which legs will be down to the team captain, they generally look at seed or declared times, how the dogs are running and where we are seeded in the division.
We also want to ensure that we do not have to run ‘Not for Competition’ (NFC) or ’empty lane’ in a competition as it’s not fair on competitors so if your availability changes, dates free up or you have to go somewhere- email Lorraine and your availability will be updated.
Note: If you’re not competing this year with your dog, please let Lorraine know as she can put them Not For Competition – NFC and you won’t get any more tournament info.
Starter & Intermediate Dogs:
It’s really helpful as you start learning about the sport that you attend tournaments to get to know how they work and to help in the ring. You learn the rules, how people handle their dogs and as you progress with your dog through the season, you will become part of a starter / intermediate team.
As soon as starter competitions are confirmed we will update the website.
BFA Membership (www.flyball.org.uk)
- For existing BFA members, the membership must be renewed by end Jan in order to compete
- For new BFA applicants in order to come to tournaments and be in the ring you will need to apply for a BFA number. Once you receive the number you should email Lorraine with the details. Full details can be found on the BFA website as above.
Any questions email Lorrainemmartyn@hotmail.com or catch her at training.
